OverviewThe aim of this book is to describe the syntactic characteristics of Portuguese and Kimbundu, two languages with different genetic bases, but spoken in the same territory, namely Angola. This situation of contact and cohabitation between two languages belonging to different linguistic families has led to the emergence of an Angolan variant of Portuguese with its own specificities, especially in the lexical and morphosyntactic domains. In recent times, there has been a surge in work on the interferences and borrowings that result from the contact between Portuguese and African languages in Angola. However, there is still little production on the morphosyntax of the African languages spoken in Angola that can contribute to knowledge of the norm of each of them (Kimbundu in particular) and to the development of more teaching material that makes it accessible to teach them throughout the country.
