Overview

The first major collection of core texts from masters of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. The first major collection of core texts from masters of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. The Drukpa Kagyu lineage is renowned among the traditions of Vajrayana Buddhism for producing some of the greatest yogis from across the Himalayas. After spending many years in mountain retreats, these meditation masters displayed miraculous signs of spiritual accomplishment that have inspired generations of Buddhist practitioners. The teachings found here are sources of inspiration for any student wishing to genuinely connect with this tradition. Theses translations include Mahamudra advice and songs of realization from major Tibetan Buddhist figures such as Gampopa, Tsangpa Gyare, Drukpa Kunleg, and Pema Karpo, as well as modern Drukpa masters such as Togden Shakya Shri and Adeu Rinpoche. This collection of direct pith instructions and meditation advice also includes an overview of the tradition by Tsoknyi Rinpoche. Combined with guidance from a qualified teacher, these teachings offer techniques for resting in the naturally pure and luminous state of our minds. As these masters make clear, through stabilizing the meditative experiences of bliss, clarity, and nonthought, we will be liberated from suffering in this very life and will therefore be able to benefit countless beings.

Reviews

These songs are meant to give assurance from their experience of what a person on this path can achieve most in this lifetime. With clear awareness of impermanence, these masters made the best use of this life to realize egoless compassionate wisdom by developing the profound environment of the teacher-student relationship, of heart to heart transmission. I lived with genuine practitioners who had all the sublime qualities and were entirely free from even the tiniest attachment to spiritual pride. What can anybody expect to achieve more than the light of a serene enlightened mind? --Drugu Choegyal Rinpoche This wonderfully inspiring collection of texts both past and present of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage is a welcome addition to our knowledge of authentic Tibetan Buddhist teachings. Ranging from the Mahasiddha Tilopa through Tsangpa Gyare and Pema Karpo to modern masters such as Togden Shakya Shri, Khamtrul Dongyu Nyima, and Adeu Rinpoche, we are offered a spectrum of profound advice on Mahamudra meditation and related practices from the perspective of the Drukpa Kagyu school. This volume is a treasure-house of instruction which would benefit whosoever has the good fortunate to peruse its pages. --Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo A collection of some of the most important texts to awaken human beings, tried-and-proven by meditators for more than a thousand years. --Erik Pema Kunsang
