She is a board member of the Florida Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Educators (FL-NAME) and former board chair of Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator. Dr. McClean conducts collaborative research with middle school students focusing on building historical consciousness of the roots of inequity and utilizing writing as a tool to empower youth and build their capacity as change agents in disrupting the tradition of failure imposed by the standardization of the curriculum.
