The Straight Lead: The Core of Bruce Lee's Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do

Overview

The Straight Lead is a key element in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do(R) which he developed in response to the shortcomings he found in traditional martial arts. Jeet Kune Do was designed to be uncomplicated, economical, and brutally effective. The Straight Lead describes the development of the straight punch and Lee's refinement of the technique. The Straight Lead offers a thorough instruction in the complexity and power of the move through over 100 photos that demonstrate how to incorporate this devastating attack into one's repertoire.

Reviews

“Teri Tom pulls no punches and tells it straight. From her unique position of insight, gained after many years of study under Ted Wong (Bruce Lee’s most faithful student) combined with in-depth research into Bruce Lee’s archives, Tom has produced a text that is both polemical, controversial, and authoritative. This vital resource is essential reading for anyone who wants a definitive and authoritative account of what Bruce Lee thought and taught and his unique contribution to the global development of martial arts culture and unarmed combat principles and practices.” — Paul Bowman, Professor of Cultural Studies, Cardiff University, UK, author of Theorizing Bruce Lee, Director of The Martial Arts Studies Research Network —James Bundy, Dean, Yale School of Drama; Artistic Director, Yale Repertory Theatre “Highly recommended! This book is an intelligent and fascinating examination of Bruce Lee’s ‘straight lead’ punch. Teri Tom does an incredible job documenting the painstaking process Bruce Lee went through to develop the punch and clearly explains the principles behind it. Anyone interested in JKD will benefit from this book—even if you are not interested in Jeet Kune Do, the techniques and principles laid out will help you look at every strike you throw in a different, more scientific, and practical way.” — David Christian, creator of the YouTube channel The Modern Martial Artist, author of Footwork Wins Fights and Aggressive Defense “I regard Teri Tom as perhaps the most articulate and scientific JKD instructor out there.” — Robert W. Young, Executive Editor of Black Belt magazine “I consider Teri Tom my top student. Her attentiveness in developing the discipline accurately, and her devotion in seeing it raised to the level that Bruce Lee envisioned in his life, heartens my belief that through her, the art I teach will be passed onto future generations.” — Ted Wong
