OverviewThe Story of Hope is the book the author, locked in despair, was desperate to read but unable to find. So, she wrote a book of her own. This is the story of an undiscovered Hero called Hope, trapped in the attic of anxiety, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery, protected by a beautiful cloak. In this exquisitely illustrated story, Hope is feeling alone, invisible and abandoned by the world. Watching a laughing crowd in party dress from her attic window, she longs to join them but feels she would never fit in. Hiding behind a black cloak, she goes on a Hero's Journey to find her own place in the world. Step-by-step, through the seasons and a complex kaleidoscope of emotions, Hope searches for meaning and eventually discovers herself. She meets a wise stranger and a group of trusted companions. They exchange her dark heavy cloak for a light, beautiful one in which she finds the courage to again face the world. The story ends with Hope writing one last entry in her diary. There she shares important lessons about her journey through depression to help other struggling heroes. She tells them not to fear but to write their own story of hope where victory through vulnerability is their greatest strength. This book guides those in despair from what feels like a grey, empty existence to a place of colour and confidence: the life they were meant to lead. It shows however bad a situation can get, there is always Hope."" - Maurice Harvey ""Fabulous artwork and a heart-warming story of unfurling from a place of darkness to stepping out into the light again."" - Tracey Tait ""An important and enjoyable read. You must read it. It has a very simple message but true. The cloak she wears so familiar to many of us who struggle from our own attics. I was drawn through the book, compelled to read the next page but slowly reflecting on each one as I passed it, loving the illustrations that complemented the words so well. So simple yet so complex. Please travel the journey of Hope 💖. It is a book that will absorb and help all age spectrums without seeming to be a 'self-help' or textbook."" - Gold Girl ""Lovely words and art to illustrate them. I love this book. I enjoyed the story but my favourite bit was the Epilogue on page 35/36. It's a small book that packs a punch."" - Ms Mandy E. Ward ""A refreshing and sympathetic approach to a difficult subject which will bring much-needed Hope to many."" - Karen Bennet ""A comfort blanket in a book. This is a truly heartfelt story. Everything from the words, the images, even the feel of the book itself feels like a comfort through the experience of personal difficulty."" - Janine ""A real-life story of hope. I've been waiting to read this book since I was told it was going to be published. It's more than one person's tale and it's more than a how-to book. I love the narrative and the illustrations and will recommend it to others."" - John" Hopeful and beautiful book. Katherine has a heart for helping those struggling with mental health problems having fought her own painful battle with depression. A shy, sensitive child, she spent many hours in the attic of the large house by the sea where she grew up, trying to make sense of the world. She fed her imagination with fairy tales and fantasy literature like the Hobbit, Wizard of Oz and Alice and Wonderland. Feeling like an undiscovered Princess, the idea of 'The Story of Hope' was born. The Heroes and Heroines of those tales became her friends. Later, working with young people with mental health issues, she saw how they often retreated into their own 'attic' of despair, hiding away from the world. She realised that we are all on a Hero's Journey, called to find hope by conquering adversity. Now Katherine uses storytelling to help others navigate uncertainty on their own personal journey of self-discovery. Through her work and her writing, Katherine empowers others to share their own story of hope, where victory through vulnerability is their greatest strength.
