Reviews

Since it was first published in 1898, The Story of a Pumpkin Pie has been a treasured part of the Congregational Library & Archives' collection. It's hard not to be charmed by Jake, John, Jane and their dog Ziggy as they work together to grow a pumpkin for a Thanksgiving pie and harder still not to feel a little hungry by the end, where the rewards of patience, hard work and cooperation are as delicious as they are gratifying. A.M. Willard's fanciful illustrations complimented by William Eleazar Barton's verse have long captivated the library's patrons and staff alike. I am delighted that The Pilgrim Press has given new life to this story while retaining its original appeal so that it can be enjoyed by a brand new generation of children and adults. I look forward to placing this new edition on the library's shelves. - Sara Trotta, librarian, Congregational Library & Archives, Boston
