OverviewThe series offers a detailed discussion of the stained-glass windows of the Sint Janskerk at Gouda in three richly illustrated volumes. The windows of the Sint Janskerk constitute the most important ensemble of sixteenth-century stained glass in the Netherlands, and it is the only church in the country in which the original glazing, from the period 1555-1604 produced after the fire of 1552, is preserved in its entirety. Moreover, the clerestory of the choir incorporates even earlier glass, dating from c.1530-1540, which counts as the oldest stained glass in situ in the Netherlands.
