The Spoonmaker's Diamond: A Chooseable Path Novel for Learning English Expressions

Overview

During the reign of the Ottoman Empire, a Turkish fisherman discovered a rare stone on the shores of the Bosphorus Strait...

One week before the International Fair in your town, the famed Topkapi Diamond vanishes from the Royal Treasury of Istanbul. And on a recent trip to Turkey, your friend Bob picked up a souvenir that may implicate him in the crime. When a stranger appears, demanding to buy the souvenir off Bob, you know something is amiss. Fate and happenstance collide and, before you know it, you are swept away on an exciting journey through one of the most culturally significant cities in the world. But with criminals and cops hot on your trail, you can't afford to take the scenic route! Can you prove Bob's innocence and recover the diamond before it's too late? The Spoonmaker's Diamond is a grand overseas adventure that will test your courage and friendships.

RECOMMENDED FOR ADVANCED LEVEL LEARNERS

TURN OF PHRASE ESL (TOP ESL) is an educational series that teaches English language idioms, phrasal verbs, and collocations in the form of chooseable path novels. The series is designed for intermediate to advanced young adult and adult students.

Researchers have long shown that learning in meaningful contexts can help English language learners become more fluent and improve vocabulary retention. TOP ESL books are the ideal learning tool for the classroom or independent study because they are immersive and fun, and unlike other books, they put students right in the driver's seat. The books make use of gamebook-inspired 'decision points.' At every decision point, readers are tested on their understanding of idiomatic expressions or situational contexts. TOP ESL books offer not only a rich source of idiomatic expressions but also meaningful contexts of those expressions in action, and a reading format that will have English language learners hooked with cliffhangers and plot twists.

TOP ESL books complement all types of curricula that promote engaged and self-directed learning. To learn more about this book and other titles in the series, visit www.nightowlspress.com/turn-of-phrase-esl/.
