Overview

This book is a catalogue published to accompany the exhibition El Esplendor del Romanico (The Splendour of the Romanesque) that will be held at the Fundacion Mapfre in Madrid and will consist of masterpieces from the Museu Nacional d Art de Catalunya. The exhibtion will be an exceptional selection of approximately sixty Romanesque works belonging to the MNAC collections. First, fragments of murals and objects sculpted out of stone will be shown for the purpose of introducing the elements placed within the architectural framework for which they were created. These will be followed by paintings on board, wooden sculptures and gold and silver work related to liturgical and altar furnishings. The selection also includes Romanesque works from Catalonia, although in each sphere significant Romanesque works from the rest of Spain have been selected with a view to comparison.
