The Spider Sat Beside Her

Overview

Liz Jacoby is a petite, single, 48 year old woman, who was a photographer and longtime resident of Columbus, OH. It is July. She is in the hospital's rehab center to overcome a hemorrhagic stroke. She has to use a wheelchair, but her recovery has been rather routine, as well as tedious. Nothing an active, talented photographer would want any time. Pete Young, a short, wiry, 45 year old man is the patient across the hall with an accidental gunshot wound and a mild concussion. In reality, he had been hired to kill a political city candidate and was shot by that target. This was his first messed up hit. A known thief, not a known hit man. Liz overhears the argument Pete and Luke, his boss, had about why he was shot. Liz is convinced Pete is a hitman. Pete is certain that she heard their argument, so he begins to weave his web-of-doubt to play-up her stroke's mental deficiency to the hospital's staff. The last thing on Liz's mind is to deal with a hit man in the hospital. Her biggest question was who could she tell about Pete; who would believe her? However, along with her medical concerns, her current life gives her a new boyfriend, Scott Warner, a Physical Therapy Intern. He began late to begin his Physical Therapy career; a little younger than Liz, but not that much. She confides in Scott and knows he believes her because he tells his police detective friend of her dilemma with Pete. Liz is disabled, but she becomes a tenacious, gritty patient to deal with Pete's mental torments. No matter, Liz is a survivor! With emotional twists, a murder and a bit of romance, The Spider Sat Beside Her is riveting!

Author Information

A Brief Biography - B.D. Adams Life begins and the rest is up to you. My life began in Ft. Worth, Texas. I was there until 1969. Then, I moved to Ohio where I attended Ohio State University. My major was Fine Arts. Didn't graduate, but was there for all the excitement during the riots in 1970. In college, I had taken one Creative Writing class. I've lived in northern areas since 1969 and never wanted to go back south. It did take some acclimating to go through the winters, but not that hard. Photography became my career. Once I was asked what I would do if I couldn't do photography. Of course, I truly felt that would never happen. However, I said that I'd like to write. My desire to write, as an adult, really began in 1982. I wrote a short story, Nothing In Common - about a mother and daughter -- in the hopes it would be published in the Columbus Dispatch's Sunday Magazine. The story was submitted, but I really didn't think it would be accepted. Lo and behold, I got a call from the Magazine's Editor. I was elated! With minor editing, my little story was published. Not long after that, my life took a delightful turn. My then husband was offered a position in Germany. West Germany at that time. I had always wanted to go to Europe. I had taken French in high school, but no German. I learned German because not many local folks spoke English. I reveled in learning a new language. Never became fluent, but was able to converse with grocery clerks, clothing or bookstore clerks. French did come in handy because we went to Paris a few times. Ah, Paris. I was so thankful that I could visit places I had only read about in books, magazines or seen in movies. We were in Germany for 3 years and I loved every moment! After my return to the States, I've lived in Virginia, Michigan, back to Ohio and then to New Hampshire. Back in Ohio, I was lambasted by a stroke. I was 48 years-old. New Hampshire became my home, mostly by accident. I needed a change and NH gave me that change. As I retired from conventional employment, I began to write my stories. Of course, I write on my laptop. I have evolved from scribbling on lined paper to the computer age. On my Blog, http: //brandyswriterscramp.blogspot.com, there are fictitious stories and lifetime stories of my travels and personal tidbits. I plan to write as many novels as I can. Life is a story, so write about it.
