Overview

This science fiction narrative follows Tim, an amateur astronomer who discovers that his neighbors are actually extraterrestrial beings involved in a hidden intergalactic conflict. After witnessing a neighbor remove a mechanical ear, Tim is thrust into a dangerous world of cyborg infiltrators known as the Kr'tharr and their protective rivals, the Xylos. The story reveals that Tim's own father was replaced by one of these entities months earlier, serving as a high-level operative for the hostile invaders. With the help of a mysterious agent named Johnson, Tim eventually facilitates the rescue of his real father from alien stasis. Although his suburban life appears to return to normal, Tim is left as a silent witness to the invisible war occurring within the shadows of humanity.
