The Sleuth Club: A Cozy Mystery, Transitions

Overview

A cozy mystery: Agatha Christie meets Monty Python. In a privileged Los Angeles suburb, a substitute teacher solves the mystery of missing students and murder on campus. Sherlock Holmes says, ""There's nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact."" Ruth Doyle identifies herself as a graduate of Stony Estancia High School, but there's no record of her. Goleta Hardcastle disappears after her 18th birthday. The students organize the Sleuth Club to find her. All this happens at a top-ranked high school with a five-star cafeteria in a city incubating an artificial intelligence start-up destined for a billion-dollar stock offering. Retired homicide detective Zarand Szilard keeps busy as a substitute teacher, a dad to his tuxedo cat, and a foodie committed to feeding everyone. All this stops when gunshots interrupt Career Day. College recruiter Wally collapses onto the outdoor stage. Zarand tracks the muzzle flash to the library roof. A Marine helicopter and the police SWAT squad scramble to the shooter's position along with artificial intelligence drones. Zarand's invisible sidekick, Fitch, remarks, 'Too many fingers and not enough pie.' Zarand agrees. He watches the crowd, waiting for the opportune time to act. Stony Estancia isn't all murder and mystery. There's Dahl, the tuxedo cat; Cerberus, the chocolate lab; Fitch, the sarcastic invisible friend and polymath; Zarand's bottomless backpack; and food, delicious food. This book is an LGBTQ safe space.
