Not a volume to curl up with by the fire, it will nevertheless come into its own at the pub or an informal meeting of friends. It consists of fifty quiz packages, each including ten questions relating to players, places, celebrity fans and sporting incidents associated with the Six Nations Championship since its inception at the beginning of this century, and a list of correct answers at the end. Questions range from the two or three in each section that many of us could probably answer, to several that demand the memory of an elephant, the eye for detail of a spiny ant-eater, and perhaps the obsessive nature of the classic armchair nerd. In the atmosphere of a pub or sports-club quiz, however, one can imagine them provoking heated and enjoyable debate, the scratching of many scalps, and cries of triumph and frustration when the correct answer is announced. Conventional questions of literary merit are irrelevant in assessing a book like this. It will provide hours of challenge, debate and entertainment for many rugby fans, whether on the train to and from a game, in the early hours of a stag night or bachelor weekend, or more formally as part of a charity or social event.
