OverviewIn his final collection of short stories, once again we are invited into Taylor Grant's unique and macabre imagination. A man discovers a portal in his basement that offers him an infinite variety of alternate lives he can live. A woman seeks revenge on the man who destroyed her life. In treating a young man's haunted memories of a childhood trauma, a psychiatrist uncovers terrifying possibilities. A property speculator gets more than she bargained for when she buys an unsellable house in a small town with a morbid obsession with Halloween. And in the collection's title story, a journalist fights to solve the mystery of a world of disappearing people. Come on in and explore the dark labyrinths of the human mind and what it's capable of, if you dare. ""Taylor Grant's stories burrow into your mind like a dark seed, innocuous at first, growing until they overtake you. These stories are all winners, each bringing Grant's classic blend of twist-filled California macabre with a heaping dose of EC comics. This volume is a terrific testament to a life's work ... one that should find a place on the shelf amongst his heroes and peers.""-John Palisano, Bram Stoker Award-Winning author of Requiem and Ghost Heart ""I've always admired Taylor Grant's extraordinary gifts for lifting up life's most mundane rocks - bureaucracy, crushing jobs, middle-class striving, fragile egos - and shining a light on the things slithering through the darkness beneath. His fiction can be wryly amusing or even reassuring, but it's always disturbing, and The Shuddering Breath Before Oblivion should be a welcome addition to any collection of great horror.""-Lisa Morton, six-time winner of the Bram Stoker Award Proudly represented by Crystal Lake Publishing-Where Stories Come Alive!
