This is the first comprehensive anthology - of fiction, non fiction, poetry and prose - covering the life and times of the yards and the men who lived in them. Lavishly illustrated, it is both a history and a celebration of what for many is the golden age of Glasgow and the Clyde. This book is the subject of major exhibitions on the life of the shipbuilding yards being held in Irvinc and Saltcoats from October 2001.

Author Information

Martin Bellamy grew up on the Clyde coast at Helensburgh. After studying for a degree in naval architecture at Newcastle University, he went to work for Harland & Wolff in Belfast. After leaving the shipbuilding industry he began a new career in museums. He also studied for a PhD in Modern History at Glasgow University. He is presently the museums curator for the North Ayrshire Councils Museums Service.
