Maxcey grew up in East Texas and attended the University of Houston-Downtown where he received a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies and learned Eastern Philosophy during exchange programs in the People's Republic of China. He later attended the University of Houston-Clear Lake where he graduated Phi Kappa Theta with Honors with a MA in History. His focus was 20th Century Germany. He currently lives in the Canadian Rockies with his wife and two children. His love of history grew from his paternal grandfather, Staff Sergeant J.W.
