Overview

A veteran from the war in Afghanistan, Kat Argo journeyed from the very heart of the Maidan protests in Kyiv, to the self-proclaimed pro-Russian Donetsk People's Republic days after the Malaysian Airliner crashed over eastern Ukraine. Caught in fiery riots and artillery bombardments, she broke bread with Russian separatists, encountered foreign fighters and met injured Ukrainian soldiers at a military hospital. She traveled with a French photojournalist, got a press pass from the breakaway Donetsk government and drank with activists, and developed friendships with idealists, volunteers, combatants, Nazis, Nationalists and Communists.
