Poetry, just like art, should comfort the disturbed, and disturb the comforted. It can be raw and grotesque, just as it can be beautiful and alive. Poetry is rare in its ability to take on any meaning the reader wishes upon it. There is more to poetry than simply being words on paper; it is used as a coping mechanism, an escape, a way of communication. Only few can truly interpret the author's words, and there is a beauty to being understood without being known.

Paisley Dawn has been writing poetry for nearly 2 years and has found it to be her escape from reality as well as her way to survive it. She comes from a small town in Kansas that lacked an outlet for her so she found it in writng instead. Paisley plans to continue to write her poetry while attending Kansas State Univeristy.
