The Secret of Sunrise Mountain: Book 3: The Sunrise Mountain Western Mystery Saga

Overview

In the tradition of C.J. Box's ""Joe Pickett"" classic western sagas, and Craig Johnson's ""Longmire"" mysteries comes a new epic series. 1998 - someone or something is stampeding widower rancher Joe Mack's cattle killing precious heifers and calves and threatening his livelihood. The local sheriff won't help. He relishes punishing Joe for ""ruining"" his life, so Joe is forced to take matters into his own hands. When his friends are beaten up and shot, his new gal nearly killed, Joe finds himself in the middle of a war with mercenaries. The deadly possibility of losing everyone and everything he holds dear hangs over his head.

Reviews

I thought it was awesome. The Secret of Sunrise Mountain mixed cowboy and technology in a black ops thriller. My kind of book! --John A The stakes are definitely high enough, though the conflict does require some 'suspension of disbelief.' Major Charles Donald and his henchmen, and their nefarious scheme, are over-the-top, but that didn't really bother me much because I accepted the story as an old time yarn with the bad guys metaphorically wearing black hats. It was also easy to 'suspend disbelief' because I so much enjoyed the diverse cast of characters and the highly visual setting of the story. The characters became like friends--kind of like they do in a good TV show like NCIS, where the plot line is almost secondary. --G. Gose
