Overview

Thirty years after the original alien visit, Earth was supposed to ""grow up"" or get erased. Instead, we half-improved, half-destroyed everything, and invented social media in the middle of it. Now, on Christmas week at a mostly-abandoned Cape Canaveral, a second emissary arrives: KLAATA, Klaatu's daughter-part intergalactic auditor, part cosmic collections agent, part exhausted guidance counselor. She's here to: Check humanity's progress. Start ""uninventing"" things if we've screwed up too badly. Drop the ultimate science fair project in our lap: clean energy and faster-than-death travel... ...but also leave behind a glowing cube that will literally decide if we live or die in twenty years. Our POV human, CHRIS ATKINS, is a washed-up photographer / ex-PR guy for the space program who accidentally ends up as the only vaguely honest person in the blast radius. He kind of represents Earth. This is not a compliment.
