He joined LEDU (Local Enterprise Development Unit – the Northern Ireland government’s small business agency) in 1984 where he was the Enterprise Development Director. In 1993, he set up his own business as a consultant and a facilitator of enterprise and voluntary/community sector development. His clients have included government departments and agencies, district councils, local enterprise agencies, universities and further education institutions, private businesses and many third sector bodies – and his work for them has included feasibility studies, economic appraisals, business cases, funding applications, project evaluations and, where required, business plans. He has also undertaken assignments in Russia, Ukraine, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Mozambique, Romania, Lithuania and Turkey and served on the boards of several third sector enterprises.
