The Scar Spangled Banner

Overview

Born In Chicago, in the cold month of November, raised under the sweltering heat of the oppressive south in the state of Mississippi, then moving back to Illinois at the age of seventeen, have engraved impressionable scars and unshakable images in his memory, as well as emotions, of oppression, racism, guns and drugs, in some of the worst ways, like many of us all, while living in this nation under the constant shadows of death. Both Mom and Dad died from gunshot wounds in their thirties when he was thirteen and fifteen years of age, this year of 2005, marks fifteen years that he has been cocaine clean, crack and heroin free. So these are just a few of the problems and issues of which he writes, fights, and takes his stand. He has found his passion, purpose, peace, and non-violent weapons of choice and protest, in writing and reciting, the spoken words of poetry, as well as in the Divine Creator. As a full time, single dad of two daughters, he has also initiated a community youth program titled Self-Respect And Dignity Through Poetry, as well as, producing mature open mic. Poetry vineyards of enlightenment throughout the communities, titled Poetry For The People, Tribute to the Honorable Marcus Garvey. After being effectively delivered, and divinely guided from a perpetual life and path of darkness, he committed an oath to himself, and the one divine Creator, to dedicate whatever percentage of his life that the Creator would have him, to the upliftment and enlightenment of his community and people. Through thought-provoking poetic, and literary works, as well as, spoken word artistry, he has an uncompromising and never-ending passion to fulfill his oath to his community, his people, and the one Divine Creator.
