Overview

Jesus is Lord! This scandalous confession is an act of worship, a pledge of allegiance, a call to service, and a saving act. Yet who is Jesus Christ? How should we understand his life, his death, his resurrection, and his work of salvation? This book offers a perspective from the Wesleyan tradition on these vital questions. It introduces readers to christology, the study of Christ. The authors encourage readers to ponder the mystery of salvation at work in Christ's entire life and to make the confession """"Jesus is Lord"""" their own.

"""Unlike the Christ-related 'babble' that they mention overwhelms Christian publishing efforts, this beautiful work by Coln-Emeric and Gorman is deeply engaged with Scripture and fluently conversant (yet not overly technical) with pertinent Christological challenges. All of this is appropriate for a book explicitly steeped in the Wesleyan-Methodist heritage since so much of this tradition theologically relies on the salvific work of Christ. I cannot recommend this book enough, especially for beginning theology students and serious laypeople in church classes; mastering it will provide a solid basis for intellectual and spiritual growth."" --Daniel Castelo, Professor of Dogmatic and Constructive Theology, Seattle Pacific University and Seminary ""This book helps people become Wesleyans and it helps Wesleyans understand how they are truly Christians alongside other Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox siblings. More than explaining interesting ideas about Jesus, these authors invite the reader into a contemplative space to perceive a mystery that our words cannot finally capture. Meant to be read in the context of a thoughtful congregation or community, this book will help Wesleyan Christians think more carefully and discern more deeply the beauty and meaning of being a people formed in the mysteries of Christ."" --Jeff Conklin-Miller, Director of the Methodist House of Studies, Assistant Professor of the Practice of Evangelism and Christian Formation, and Teaching Fellow Duke University Divinity School ""Coln-Emeric and Gorman help us rediscover how prayer and song--as well as thoughtful discourse--both reflect and shape what we believe about Jesus. Their reflections on the person and work of Christ invite us to participate in the mysteries--that deep space in which God shapes life into the image of love. You have in your hands a great primer in Christology and a welcome addition to this Wesleyan Doctrine Series."" --Paul Chilcote, Asbury Theological Seminary"
