Vale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Past President, Society for American City and Regional Planning History ""The Routledge Handbook of Planning History serves as a valued resource for planning educators and students. It is well written and edited, and brings together a range of recent scholarship that would require substantial effort to assemble from journal articles and other sources. Most importantly, it emphasizes the importance of both understanding planning history, for the successful creation and implementation of plans for contemporary communities large and small. In other words, the ideas of our planning heroes must be understood in their original physical and social contexts and carefully interpreted for current use.""
