OverviewExcerpt from The Rosslyn Missal, Vol. 15: An Irish Manuscript in the Advocates' Library, Edinburgh The Rosslyn Missal (advocates' Library, Edinburgh, ms. 18. 5. 19: formerly A. 6. 12) is a small quarto manuscript written on vellum in an Irish hand which may be assigned, with the hesitation usual in such cases, ' to the end of the thirteenth or to the fourteenth century. It consists of fourteen gatherings, unsigned: the succession of the sheets of each gathering being indicated by the letters a, b, c, etc., written prima manu in the upper or lower comers of the rectos of the first few leaves (see Plate II).15 Most of these letters have, however, disappeared, having probably been cut away by the binder. The pages at present measure 18 centimetres by 13 centimetres, but they were originally considerably larger.
