Overview

A room accepts Elias Winter before he has agreed to enter it. Elias Winter is a municipal archive clerk. He trusts paper because paper can be filed, corrected, and lost in orderly ways. Then a respectable house offers him a room for nine crowns a month. The rent is impossible. The notice is unsigned. Inside, doors lead to offices that should not exist.
