Public schools are taxed with the responsibility of successfully teaching a diverse population of students from different backgrounds, cultures, classes, personalities, learning abilities, values, religions, and so on. At no point in history has the topic of education become more important than it is today. This book examines the needed improvement of African American educational system and the role that the black church can play in this process. Many of the youth today need hands-on attention and encouragement to become successful individuals. It is the responsibility of institutions such as the church to support the education of all children in order to ensure success. This book will explore and define the needed role of the church in the lives of all children, especially African American youth today. Author Information

Dr. Larry D. Brown Sr. was born in Richmond, Virginia. He is the pastor of the Gravel Run Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, Virginia, where he has served for over twenty-five years. Dr. Brown is a former Adjunct Professor at Bryant and Stratton College where he taught Ethics. He is a Bail Bondsman for the state of Virginia as well as a former radio announcer. Dr. Brown has a B.S. degree from Virginia State University, a Master of Divinity Degree from Richmond Virginia Seminary and an earned Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio where he specializes in the education of African American youth. Dr. Brown has studied the art of karate for over twenty-five years and holds a Black Belt in karate and a Black Belt in Weapons. Dr. Brown is married to the former Cynthia Lynch and he has three children: Kelly, Chalitta, and Larry Jr. He has one grand-daughter, Naisia.
