The Robert Hare Detective Agency

Overview

Looking for suspense and mystery for children? Look no further. This is the first of a two book series about a hare called Robert who solves crimes in his wood aided by a very able Detective Otis Owl. This book contains four cases. The first is about a finches' egg that has been stolen. The detectives not only find the egg but go onto solve who and why it was stolen. In the second story, Polly Duck takes her three chicks for their first swim in the woodland pond but doesn't notice that the youngest, Dilly Duckling, gets left behind and is snatched by a hungry kestrel. Their dad sees the kestrel taking his youngest chick and calls out for help. Robert and Otis rush to try to save Dilly from the clutches of the thieving kestrel. In the third story, some vandals arrive in their wood destroying the homes of many of the woodland animals. Robert and Otis, with the help of Aidan Fox one of the vandals victims, discovers who the vandals are, and are able to ensure they are aptly punished for their nasty and vicious crimes. In the last story in this series Otis becomes trapped in a shed far away from their part of the wood and believes he is going to die. But Robert works out what has happened and that in fact it was a deliberate act of revenge. He solves the crime and the culprits are captured.

Author Information

This is Linda Lawrence's fourth published book - her first three book titles were Adventures of Bob Fin and Honeybun, Everyone Needs a Hero and The Planet Sweet. All but one of the books has been in rhyme so that enables most children to enjoy the stories as research has shown children on the autism spectrum can absorb stories better when written in rhyme. (Children with autism currently number 1 child in every 100 children globally, 3 in every 100 in the U.K.  and 1 in every 31 in the US). Linda has been writing stories and poems since the age of seven but it was only after she retired from a career in the City of London that she began writing and publishing children's stories. Linda lives in Chislehurst, Kent.
