Author Information

Gary Ziegler is a field archaeologist with a geology background, a mountaineer, an explorer, and the owner of Custer County's Bear Basin Ranch. He has spent nearly a lifetime climbing mountains, exploring Custer County, and studying remote Inca sites in Peru's Southern Andes. He is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the Explorers Club. He has been featured in documentary films from the BBC, the Discovery Channel, the Science Channel, and the History Channels.In 2013, he was awarded the Distinguished Lecturer title at NASA's Marshal Space Center. He has taught at Colorado College and Peru's national university in San Marcos. His home base is the four-thousand-acre Bear Basin Ranch in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of southern Colorado's Custer County, where he formerly served as sheriff and founder of the search and rescue unit.
