She was twice a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and a winner of the Associated Press Red Smith Award for Outstanding Contributions to Sports Journalism. She has been named a columnist of the year four times each by the Associated Press and is the author of several books including The Right Call, The Real All Americans, and Sum It Up. Her writing has also appeared in Sports Illustrated, Smithsonian, Golf Digest, and more. In 2005, she was the first woman to be inducted into the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame. She received her degree from Stanford University in 1982 and now lives in New York.
