The Rhythm String Player: Strum Bowing in Action

Overview

The Rhythm String Player: Strum Bowing in Action is a clear and progressive set of lessons to teach string players how to apply Strum Bowing in several different stylistic genres such as Jazz, Rock, Bluegrass, Funk, Celtic and Hip Hop. The goal is to function like a rhythm guitar, either in a group or solo context, able to accompany singers or instrumentalists as a chordal instrument. The first section of the book teaches a few basic harmonic (chord) patterns and how to work with them as a rhythm player. Part 2 delves into several specific genres, with transcriptions of the bass lines and guitar parts to several tunes and suggestions on how to play accompaniment parts on 4-string, 5-string, 6-string violins and cello.
