In this book, the research aims to draw the attention of decision-makers first to the economic and environmental importance of rail transport and second to the need for complementary modes of transport. Thus, the coexistence of all modes of transport is essential to supporting economic activity. From road to rail, including river, sea, and air transport, each mode has its advantages and disadvantages. In terms of land transport, road and rail must be complementary modes. The current trend observed in African countries-which involves relegating rail to a secondary role based on its weaknesses-namely the significant investment required and the uncertainty of its immediate financial profitability-would be detrimental to the goal of sustainable transport that humanity advocates.
