Design Artist Brandon Muchengeti Makhumula Twenty-four years ago, Brandon ""Muchi"" Makhumula was born in Malawi. At the age of ten, along with his Zimbabwean mother and younger sister, his family moved to Masvingo and eventually settled in Mutare. Muchi spent several childhood days with the backdrop of the ancient city of Great Zimbabwe and has a great appreciation for all its wonder. At a young age, with a passion for drawing, Muchi dreamed of being larger than Leonardo DaVinci-both as an artist and an inventor. DaVinci, definitely an artist ahead of his time, inspired Muchi in various ways that included drawing, painting, and developing new concepts. Muchi is multi-talented and enjoys all forms of artistic expression, especially realism and animation. Being able to experiment and change it up is one of his favourite aspects of being an artist. One of today's challenging factors for any new and thriving artist remains supplies. They are difficult to obtain in Mutare, as there are no specific shops dedicated to providing materials for local artists. Muchi hopes as artists build their portfolios they will be able to come together and create a demand, drawing the supply businesses to the area. He would also love to see the National Art Gallery re-open in Mutare. As the city and the Eastern Highlands grow in the tourism industry, it would be a prominent way to make Mutare stand out for the art and the vibe.As Muchi's career progresses, he envisions himself creating designs that people will love and admire. His CV already includes commissioned art and most recently, Muchi designed both the cover art and book block for a children's adventure novel for Mbedzi Publishing.Muchi attended Masvingo Poly Technic College and will graduate in 2026 with a degree in Applied Art and Design.
