If one ever wishes to hide a secret, bury it in the sands and let time wash it away from memory. Information is power. The Order of Engineers has stood since the fall of the Entecean Empire and once more uncovered a secret to its prior glory. A team of Militants, led by Ser Ko Mander, alongside a former-militant-turned-Hierophant, Sera Maude Alin, are chosen to retrieve this discovery from a temple on Troyes, a desert planet with pockets of inhabitable area. Unbeknownst to them, an ancient grievance tangles them up in a web of lies and deceit, leaving them unable to tell friend from foe. All the while, a timer they did not know they had ticked its final seconds. From the ashes of an empire rises an afterthought of a curse, a cover-up gone awry, the formation of resistance and a truth that may yet set them free.
