Overview

Six months after the events of the previous book, the crew of the Persistence (formerly the Rustbucket) is being actively hunted. Commander Idris Draven, a former enforcement officer dismissed for his obsessive commitment to completing tasks has dedicated the last eighteen months to studying Captain Cade Merrick. Draven has built a 412-page dossier profiling Cade's psychological patterns, viewing his loyalty and his love for co-pilot Lyra Voss as strategic vulnerabilities. The action spans the vast and largely uncharted Calloway Expanse. Key locations include Planet Keri's a world with amber skies and plains of moving silver grass, and the dense, rust-and-purple Orvex Nebula, which causes extreme sensor interference for both the hunters and the hunted.
