OverviewThe Quimby Manuscripts, was written by American clockmaker, mentalist and mesmerist, Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, and originally published in 1921. P. P. Quimby has been pronounced the founder of the 'New Thought.' spiritual movement in the United States. There was controversy as to whether he also originated Christian Science. This set of documents, published in 1921 in response to a campaign to question his early role in Christian Science, shows that Quimby anticipated many of the key ideas of both movements. Dresser, the editor was an early follower of Quimby. He shows that not only did Quimby have contact with Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, he probably also coined the term 'Christian Science.'
