Overview

In October 1867, grieving engineer Silas Crale arrives at the Cinnabar Hill Quicksilver Mining Company in California. Fleeing the memory of his deceased wife, Eleanora, Silas hopes to lose himself in the strict mechanics of extraction. Instead, he finds an isolated community slowly being destroyed by the very mountain they are hollowing out. The canyon air is saturated with mercury vapor from thirteen ceaseless furnaces.
