OverviewThis second volume of the series Thomistic Wisdom: Reflections on the Power of God rigorously addresses Question II of the treatise De Potentia Dei by Saint Thomas Aquinas, dedicated to the mystery of the generative power in God. Through the scholastic method of objections, responses, and replies, the reader is introduced into one of the deepest questions of Trinitarian theology: the relation between potency, act, and generation in the divine realm. Structure of the work The book develops the six problems posed by Saint Thomas, treating them Article by Article just as the Aquinate did: - Whether in the divine there is a generative power. - Whether such power is said essentially or notionally. - Whether the passage of the generative faculty into act depends on the will. - Whether in God there can exist several sons. - Whether the power to generate is included in omnipotence. - Whether the power to create and the power to generate are the same. Each question is presented, expanded, and commented upon so that the reader may appreciate both the richness of the theological tradition and the conceptual precision of the Aquinate. Synthesis and Epilogue The work includes a final Synthesis of Question II and an Epilogue in the form of questions and answers, conceived as a pedagogical resource that allows the reader to consolidate the concepts and, at the same time, to spark new reflections. This dialogical structure not only provides expository clarity but also imitates the disputative spirit of scholasticism, where truth is illuminated through the exchange of reasons. Academic contribution This volume is an indispensable tool for scholars of theology and medieval philosophy, interested in understanding the genesis of Trinitarian concepts and their connection with the metaphysics of potency and act. It is part of a larger project of research and dissemination, in which each volume of the series accompanies the reader through the ten Quaestiones that make up the treatise De Potentia Dei.
