The Power of Forgiveness: A Guide to Healing and Wholeness

Overview

The Power of Forgiveness is a comprehensive guide to forgiveness as a healing practice. The author makes the crucial point that, for us to be the most empowered versions of ourselves in the world, we must prioritize our healing. And forgiveness is the most important path toward healing that we can undertake. The book is made up of three distinct parts. Part I engages the reader in considering what forgiveness is, and what it isn't, and why it is so important to participate in this powerful and often misunderstood, process. Part II reveals the framework and process. The author offers readers a comprehensive roadmap, with a series of written exercises and guided meditations, toward forgiveness. The structure she provides helps to strengthen the competencies we need to forgive fully. The final section of the book discusses concepts related to forgiveness that deepen our understanding of the healing practice. In considering the impact of personal forgiveness on the world around us, Hooks shows us in great detail how people who practice forgiveness in their daily lives have the capacity to heal both themselves and the world.

'There's nothing that can't be forgiven.' I remember reading this declaration many years ago as I explored the body of forgiveness research, searching for my own relief of suffering from child sexual molestation. Decades later, through my healing and the creation of Project Forgive, I've come to understand the beauty of these words. As we reach millions with our project, I'm frequently asked to share a book or research, or promote a forgiveness workshop through our vast social reach. I must admit we are fiercely selective. Not everyone embodies the understanding of the process, the complexities, and the gift of forgiveness. Emily Hooks gets it. Whether you have a horrific experience in your past, a long-standing grudge, or you can't seem to shake the bitterness, The Power of Forgiveness holds many of the answers you've been seeking. Emily, with brazen tenacity and masterful storytelling, shares her pain, path, and triumph, offering you a compelling and comprehensive guide to finally forgive anyone for anything. From dispelling forgiveness myths to breaking through repetitive pain to relieving suffering once and for all, this body of work will inspire you to move through pain and claim responsibility for your life. Relish this treasure.
