OverviewMárcia Ferreira Schlemper currently teaches at a university in São Paulo, where she lectures in language and education courses. With this work, the author aims to highlight how argumentation occurs in women's magazine editorials, especially those whose main theme is fashion. Texts related to fashion are still relatively unexplored in the field of linguistics, and with this research, the author enters this field, showing how the arguments used in fashion texts convince consumers to purchase products that are currently popular in the fashion market. The author's analyses show that editorials in women's magazines are strongly influenced by the presence of the publisher and the reader and, from this point of view, differ from newspaper editorials, for example. The words used in fashion editorials are carefully chosen by the publisher in order to arouse feelings in readers and make them desire to be like the ""ideal"" woman that the magazine displays, as well as to possess the items that are currently fashion trends, which are featured in the pages of the magazine.
