Curiosity Row has been stained with red as a mysterious murderer stalks the streets. For Ornella Falkhund, this is only a minor annoyance. Her newfound obsession with revenge takes her through a series of deadly trials and salacious investigations. She finds herself reluctantly accepting the friendship of those she sought only to use to her advantage and falling in love with a mysterious man named Cyrilian Cligoni who is oddly willing to hide a body for her. Ultimately she must face the judgement of the dragons and the punishment that comes with interfering with their plans.
