Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationRaised in the lake-speckled forests of northern Minnesota, I learned in childhood a love of nature and the outdoors. Much of my time was spent roaming the woods pretending to be an elf, troll, Indian, or animal depending on the day. In the evening Mom would read or make up stories, fueling my imagination for the following day's adventures. My father furnished me with hand- crafted swords, suits of armor, and wooden horses to aid me in my quests. My baby brother was usually my sidekick, but sometimes had to play the villain or monster in the worlds I created. Creativity and artistic expression were integral parts of our family. We were always painting, sculpting, writing, or building something; the television was rarely turned on. The work of Shel Silverstein, William Steig, and Dr. Seuss was recited by my family on road trips, before bed, and during breakfast. In the background played the sounds of old Burl Ives, Danny Kaye, and Tom Glazer records. My mom put me in piano lessons in 2nd grade and guitar lessons some years later. I have lived in Minnesota, California, Arizona, Alaska, Vermont, and Florida. This nomadic lifestyle has taught me to embrace diversity in people as well as environments. I have been working with children of all ages and backgrounds for 18 years as a camp counselor, after school tutor, substitute, and in my current position as a P.E. teacher. My students have helped me tap the Fountain of Youth and shown me the world through innocent and imaginative eyes. I have always been a kid at heart, and my vivid and fond memories of childhood keep me in touch with the emotions experienced at that age. I remember the uncontrolled thrills, joys, stresses, and fears, of growing up and express them in my books, music, and poetry. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
