Dr. Alan Schoonmaker has an unusual combination of academic credentials, business experience, and poker psychology expertise. After earning a Ph.D. in industrial psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, he joined the faculties of UCLA and Carnegie-Mellon University. He then became a Research Fellow at The Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. He was Merrill Lynch's Manager of Management Development before starting Schoonmaker and Associates, an international consulting company. He personally taught or consulted in twenty-nine countries on all six continents for clients such as GE, GM, IBM, Mobil, Xerox, Rank Xerox, Bankers Trust, Wells Fargo, Manufacturers Hanover, Chemical Bank, and Chase Manhattan. His personal clients' annual sales greatly exceed one trillion dollars. He wrote or co-authored three research monographs and published four books on industrial psychology (Anxiety and the Executive, Executive Career Strategy, Selling: The Psychological Approach, and Negotiate to Win), one book on coping with college (A Student's Survival Manual), and four previous books on poker, The Psychology of Poker, Your Worst Poker Enemy, Your Best Poker Friend, and Poker Winners Are Different. He is David Sklansky's co-author for DUCY? His books have been translated into French, German, Dutch, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, Japanese, and Indonesian. He published over 150 articles in business and poker periodicals such as The California Management Review, Expansion, Poker Digest, and Card Player. He had his own radio show. He wrote and/or played the leading role in four video series. He developed Selling: The Psychological Approach, which was once the world's best-selling computer based training program for business people. He served as an expert witness about poker psychology in an administrative hearing and lawsuit. He played online as a member of Royal Vegas Poker's team of experts.
