Overview

This comprehensive, step-by-step guide is for anyone interested in owning or working pointing dogs. Aimed at complete novices and those with more experience, it is easy to read, and written with great enthusiasm for the subject. It helps you select a breed and source good breeders, choose your puppy, and covers its early socialisation and care - then clearly describes how to train each aspect of the pointing dog's work. Completing the 'full circle' it moves on to breeding future generations. Lavishly illustrated with over 80 full-colour photographs and diagrams, it also has helpful, fault-solving charts.

Author Information

Steve Wright comes from a dog-breeding family and has been a professional dog trainer for 60 years. He first trained hunt/point/retrievers in the 1950s, and has owned, trained, worked and bred his own kennel of Brittanys for 33 years. As a full-time falconer he and his dogs worked on a daily basis throughout every winter, in the Highlands, Hebrides, mid-Wales, and across the UK. His book 'Falconry: The Essential Guide' has been in print since 2006. In retirement he works his dogs on local shoots and runs training days for the Brittany Club (of which he is a past Chairman) and instructs hunt/point/retrieve classes at Worcester Gundog Society. He is also a breed specialist judge of Brittanys.
