Overview

The seventeenth century philosopher Baruch Spinoza taught that God was a pantheistic being, an intelligence encompassing the universe. Modern physics, particularly zero point physics, suggests that this may indeed be the case. According to zero point physics, space is not a void, but a dense plenum of energy. The interrelated disciplines of emergence, self-organizing systems, complexity, chaos theory, and dynamical systems describe how energy organizes itself into ever more complex configurations. The Physics of Spinoza's God presents the hypothesis that the infinite energy of the zero point field, the very fabric of space itself, gave rise to that most complex of configurations -- a cosmic intelligence permeating the universe, an intelligence infinite in time, space, and possibilities.
