Garratt is a native New Mexican who was born and raised in Albuquerque until enrollment at Dartmouth College took him east. Eventually earning a Ph.D. in Language, Literature and Socio-cultural Studies at the University of New Mexico, Dale has taught undergraduate and graduate students at several colleges in New England and South Korea as well as to secondary students in Seoul, Los Angeles and New Mexico. While teaching in South Korea, he regularly presented at language conferences and travelled in Japan, the People's Republic of China and throughout the South Korean peninsula. These experiences provided the inspiration and background for this first novel, The Peace Road.
