Overview"""Young black boys have powerful stories. Stories that have been intentionally devalued due to the oppressive history of our country. They deserve an education that creates opportunities for them to cultivate their story and, by doing so, spark a network of believers around them who demand excellence with and for them. The Creative School program (through TBI) does just that; connecting artists to Kings to develop, capture, and share their stories. Table of ContentsReviewsMENTORING DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS --- The Creative School is by far one of the best art programs I've ever experienced. The young Kings in the program have been afforded the opportunity to learn how to write poetry, shoot photography and are being exposed to experiences that don't come their way. Marshall Pollard and Reggie Green have done a great job at putting together lesson plans and giving these young boys hope that their potentials are limitless. I'm honored to be apart of the program and look forward working with the kidsTrivell MillerDC Based Photographer Gabby Fish5th Grade Math EducatorStanton Elementary SchoolThe Peace King Storybook speaks volumes. This book uniquely projects the perspective of our young black and brown kings and allows them to be the storytellers, the ones expressing their own narrative and bravely sharing it with the world. It is rare that eight to ten year old boys get to be published authors, esteemed poets and photographers, but these boys are deserving of such titles with this storybook. What makes this book even more powerful is that it also raises our black and brown boys' voices in a time when so many are silencing them. Their voices need to be heard and their faces need to be seen more than ever before and this book accomplishes just that. I recommend spreading this book wide and far. I am personally going to buy copies for myself, friends, and family and I know others that plan to do the same. When I turn the pages, reading the boys honest reflections in poetry and photography, I feel uplifted, hopeful, and proud. These boys have minds that will accomplish so much; this is just their beginning. With that, this book is able to reflect the reality of these boys' everyday life, but also envision a hope for the future.
