Overview

The Shining Path was once one of the most feared guerrilla movements in the world. Over a 19-year period, more than 30,000 people died as a result of its activity. The author chronicles the suffering of evangelical Christians and the strides that were made towards peace and healing in the midst of a harsh civil war. The book follows the story of four groups of people, including a missionary family who survived a traumatic Shining Path kidnapping and later encountered one of their captors, now a Christian. These stories intertwine so that, by the end, the reader has gained a four-part perspective on the Shining Path insurrection.

Author Information

David Miller and his wife Barbara have lived in Bolivia since 1981, working as missionaries with the Church of God. An itinerant evangelist and Bible teacher among indigenous Andean peoples, David also freelances for various Christian news agencies. Since 1999, journalistic assignments have taken him to 15 Hispanic countries. His first book, The Lord of Bellavista (Triangle) sold 5,800 copies in its first year of publication.
