The Parenthood Primer: A Pre-Parental Counseling Workbook for Expecting Christian Couples

Overview

Wait, Pre-Parental Counseling?! Actually, it makes perfect sense! If we encourage couples to prepare for marriage through premarital counseling, why don't we prepare for parenthood in the same way? Our babies might not come with an instruction manual, but this workbook is the next best thing. It's not about childbirth or sleep training; it's about you and your spouse exploring and discussing essential spiritual principles before your baby arrives. In the pages of this workbook, you and your spouse will: Explore what it means to embrace parenting as a blessing rather than a burden Discuss how to prioritize and protect a strong marriage Work together to create a family vision and rhythms that strengthen your home Identify ways to build a trusted village of family, friends, and mentors And much more! Why is this so important? The first three years of a child's life are the most formative, yet many parents only consider these important principles after that critical time has passed. Take the time now to build a strong foundation for your family, before your precious little one arrives!

Reviews

""Wow, what a valuable resource the DeAquinos have put together for expectant parents! I wish every new parent would be given a copy. The manual that we all wished would have come with the baby has finally arrived."" -Jeremy Pryor, Co-Founder of Family Teams, Executive Director of 1KH (1,000 Houses), Author of Family Revision ""We strongly encourage both expecting parents and new parents to read The Parenthood Primer. The DeAquinos have done an excellent job of addressing some of new parents' biggest challenges from a biblical perspective. Their emphasis on working on your marriage, building a village, examining your own faith, and thinking about how you were raised are all of paramount importance as you begin the God-given task of parenting. Even parents who are already well into the process of raising children would benefit from reading this book and reflecting on these significant points!"" -Drs. Michael and Mary Shapiro, Licensed Child Psychologists ""Michael and Angela DeAquino have put together a very practical guide to help parents and parents-to-be start the journey of mom and dad. I would highly encourage church leaders to use this primer with young married couples who are thinking about starting a family. It would be wonderful if older, experienced parents would partner up with young couples and work through the book together. This primer will help keep Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and Psalm 78 out in front of all parents."" -Dudley Chancey, PhD, Author of Keep Faith Alive and Owning Faith""The Parenthood Primer is a great resource for every parent starting out. Is there any more important aspect of our lives on earth than raising these precious children for Jesus, and for the glory of God? As stewards for the Lord Jesus, every parent needs the tools and the equipping to the task. Thank you, Michael and Angela, for putting this essential introduction together!"" -Kevin Swanson, Radio Host and Director, Generations.org

Author Information

Michael and Angela have worked extensively with youth and families, serving in full-time ministry in Cincinnati and Denver from 2007 to 2022. During this time, they observed firsthand the struggles of youth and college students with shallow roots in their faith. Their work with churches that focused primarily on teenagers and college students led them to wish that guidance could start earlier. This experience inspired them to develop their pre-parental counseling workbook, driven by the question, ""What if we started younger?"" Michael and Angela live in Denver, where they spend most days outdoors with their children and neighbors. Michael's parents live with them because they wanted to create a multigenerational home life. They are deeply involved in their church community, leading a young parents' ministry they started, hosting vision retreats, and consulting churches on how to focus more on families. Their mission is to restore and strengthen families one household at a time. Married since 2011, Michael and Angela enjoy raising their five children in a faith-centered community of extended family and friends. Michael and Angela are passionate about helping young parents build strong, faith-centered families. Married since 2011, with five children and over twenty-five years of combined ministry experience, they created The Parenthood Primer to guide expecting couples in laying a strong foundation for a thriving family from the very start.
