The Painterly Lens

Overview

Master photographer Manly Chin is regarded as the pioneer of camera painting, an art-form that resembles more the traditional paintings of a master artist than photographic work. Using flowers, birds, and fish as his inspiration, Chin creates picture-moods on celluloid as an artist would create them on silk or rice paper, to create works of art that have been applauded worldwide for the past thirty years. The Painterly Lens is a representative collection of 150 masterpieces of Chin's unique style. It is this style, coupled with a perceptive eye, imaginative mind, and masterly skills, that first projected Chin into the limelight when he won several top awards at the International Salon of Photographic Art in 1958. Subsequently, for fourteen consecutive years, he was elected one of the world's ten most outstanding photographers by the American Photographic Society, as well as honored by other photographic societies aroung the world. With commentary by Chin himself, telling how each shot was created and outlining the technical aspects, The Painterly Lens is an extraordinary foray into the illusive world of camera painting.
